Today is the 28th anniversary of the day I married my best friend Steve. We met playing softball; he was the star shortstop, I was a pickup player who had never played a game of softball in my life. Softball teams are like a family and we spent ball games, beers, dinners and a shared love of video games together. No one was more surprised than us when we fell in love. We had 3 children, 4 including the daughter of my heart from Steve’s first marriage who was 2 ½ when we married. Steve and I have always been complete opposites but we make a whole. He taught me to camp, I taught him to love cities, traveling, reading. He loves classic rock; I like classical, Seattle bands, hip hop. He’s a neat freak, I’m messy. You get the idea...The Odd Couple. After 10 years we were asked our secret to staying together. I said love, great sex, good communication and spending time together. Now at 28 years I still give the same answer. I enjoy activities with Steve and our kids over others any day. My Dad was a Lutheran Pastor who told me “Marriage is like a roller coaster ride. You have great highs and deep lows. You got on the ride so don’t give up before you see it through. It’s a great ride.” Sorry for the long blog but I figure after 28 years I can lecture.
